I did it. I took the plunge. 44 years old and I finally bought my first home. No longer a renter am I.. The adventure of paying a mortgage, paying property taxes, and maintaining a home has begun. This is what it looks like..
Looking out from the porch from left to right..
the back yard..
the view from space..
1248 sqft
built in 1908
Colonial Style
9000 sqft lot
4br, 2ba
I've learned that this style of home is called a "shotgun" style colonial. It's called that because you can shoot a shotgun right through the entire house from the front door to the back..
Most importantly, the location is great and the lot size is above average in the area. It's walk-able to downtown, hiking and biking trails (road or mountain), and a large park. The schools are top notch and this home is on the low end of the price range in the neighborhood and city (Mom always said buy the smallest house in the most expensive neighborhood). Much potential I figure! I move in with the hopes and dreams of what I might be able to afford to do to it in the future..
One last shot.. this one of my heater. It's a box in the floor with a key. It's gas. It heats up like a radiator and has probably been there since 1908 for all I know.. Little did I know how much i'd both love and hate this thing. Love, because it's better then nothing and at least provides some warmth in the winter. Hate, because it pretty much only heats up a small area near the front of the house. But it is nice standing over it sometimes when you're cold :)
